EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

Landscape contractors play a crucial role in designing, constructing, and maintaining outdoor spaces. To ensure quality work and protect the environment, many jurisdictions require landscape contractors to obtain licenses in order to build in these outdoor areas. The types and importance of landscape contractor licenses can vary by location. Here at Thorpe we have our NC General Contractor Building License, NC Landscape Contractor License, NC Landscape Corporate License, NC Onsite Wastewater Contractor Level IV License, NC Pesticide Applicator License, NC Rain Garden Professional Certification, NC Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance Certification, and are Interlocking Concrete Paver Certified Installers.

Our General Landscape Contractor License is one of the most important types of licenses we have. It allows us to perform a wide range of landscaping services from design to installation to maintenance of landscapes. Licensing ensures contractors have met certain qualifications, such as education and experience, to perform landscaping work competently. Education not only provides us with the tools to give the best products possible but it also keeps our employees safe through training. Another important license we have directly related to safety is our Pesticide Applicator License. This ensures we have been properly trained on the pesticides and herbicides we use to treat lawns. It covers everything from knowing what the pesticides/herbicides are made of to proper personal protection to application.

Our North Carolina Stormwater BMP Inspection & Maintenance Certification is a certification program that focuses on ensuring the proper inspection and maintenance of Best Management Practices (BMPs) related to stormwater management in North Carolina. Stormwater BMPs are systems or practices designed to control the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff, which helps prevent pollution of water bodies and reduces the risk of flooding. Other water and drainage-related certifications we have include our NC Rain Garden Professional Certification and our Onsite Wastewater Contractor (Level IV) License. In North Carolina, the Onsite Wastewater Contractor Level IV License is a specialized license for professionals involved in the design and installation of advanced onsite wastewater treatment systems. These systems are essential for treating and managing sewage and wastewater in areas where centralized sewage treatment facilities are not available. The Level IV license is the highest level of certification for onsite wastewater professionals in North Carolina.

Our Interlocking Concrete Paver Certified Installer certification is from the Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute one of the industry’s top hardscaping education groups. It is a certification in the installation of interlocking concrete pavement, segmental retaining walls, permeable interlocking concrete pavement, and manufactured stone veneer systems to help individuals become qualified professionals in the industry.

Having licensures and certifications is important for safety, quality assurance, consumer and environmental protection, access to permits, and credibility. Hiring a contractor with licensures can give you ease of mind with your project and ensure the highest quality.
